01 — Why DECLA.ca

One niche, four strengths.

01
CARM specialist
The CBSA system mandatory since October 2024. Registration, monthly reconciliation, ongoing compliance.
02
Non-resident importers
You're a foreign business with no presence in Canada? That's my specialty — a file few accountants master.
03
Trilingual service
French, English, Mandarin (中文). A real asset for international clients and their business partners.
04
Data stored in Canada
Your accounting records are kept in Canada, in line with the regulations applicable to importers.
02 — For importers

Your obligations, my responsibilities.

Importing into Canada involves ongoing accounting and tax obligations. DECLA.ca takes care of it all, from registration to monthly and annual compliance.

01

Importer registration

Opening of the CARM account and adding the import-export (RM) account linked to your business number (BN9). If you don't yet have a business number, I also handle that first step with the CRA.

02

Monthly bookkeeping

Transaction categorization, bank reconciliation, accounts receivable and payable tracking. Compatible with QuickBooks Online, Excel, and Sage — your choice based on your current setup.

03

Monthly CARM reconciliation

Reconciling your CBSA account statement each month to quickly identify discrepancies, anticipate payments, and avoid surprises at deadlines.

04

GST/HST and tax credits

Filing of GST/HST returns based on your regime (monthly, quarterly, or annual) and recovery of input tax credits (ITC) paid at import — often a substantial saving.

05

Records kept in Canada

Your accounting records are maintained per regulatory requirements and kept in Canada — an obligation for importers, especially non-residents.

06

Corporate tax (T2)

Filing of the T2 return when applicable, and analysis of your Canadian tax position (concept of "permanent establishment," application of tax treaties between Canada and your home country).

03 — For customs brokers

A partnership, not competition.

You handle customs. DECLA.ca handles the accounting for your importer clients. Your clients have needs you don't cover — GST, bookkeeping, CARM reconciliation, corporate tax. DECLA.ca takes them on so they stay fully compliant, without pulling you into questions outside your field.

A clear, reassuring boundary

I stay in my lane: books, GST, tax. I never touch your customs work, nor your client relationship. You remain your client's main point of contact.

A natural reciprocity

When my own clients are looking for a customs broker, I refer them to trusted partners. A two-way partnership, structured over time.

05 — Frequently asked questions

Real questions, clear answers.

My company is abroad, with no presence in Canada. Is that possible?

Yes — that's actually my specialty. DECLA.ca supports non-resident importers: registration of required accounts (CARM, BN9, RM), keeping compliant records in Canada, GST and T2 compliance if needed. The entire collaboration happens remotely, in French, English, or Mandarin.

Do you work with my customs broker?

Of course. DECLA.ca and your broker are complementary: they handle customs, I handle the accounting. I can communicate directly with them to ensure consistency in your file, while keeping responsibilities clearly separated.

What if I don't have a customs broker?

You can pick one yourself. If you're looking for a starting point, I can point you to Richmond Prime Customs Brokerage, a CBSA-licensed broker based in Ontario. The final choice remains yours.

What languages do you offer the service in?

French, English, and Mandarin (中文). I can communicate with you and with your partners in the language that works best — a real asset for international clients whose teams don't always speak French.

Is my data kept in Canada?

Yes. Regulations require that importers' accounting records be kept in Canada, unless special authorization is granted. DECLA.ca strictly complies with this requirement: your documents are stored on Canadian-based servers.

How does billing work?

Pricing on quote, based on transaction volume, file complexity, and filing frequency. Contact me for a personalized, no-commitment estimate.

Ready to structure your import accounting?

A no-commitment discussion to understand your situation and see whether DECLA.ca is the right fit for you.
