What you shouldn't miss.
Tuition fees
The T2202 slip (federal) and the RL-8 (Quebec) report your eligible tuition fees. These amounts generate a non-refundable tax credit that can reduce your taxes or be carried forward to future years.
Student loan interest
Interest paid on your government student loans (federal, provincial, or Aide financière aux études) qualifies for a tax credit. Don't overlook it — it's often a substantial deduction after several years of study.
Medical expenses
Glasses, dental care, physiotherapy, psychotherapy: many medical expenses are eligible. With a modest student income, the deduction threshold is lower and the impact on your refund can be significant.
LLP — Lifelong Learning Plan
The LLP lets you withdraw up to $20,000 from your RRSP ($10,000 per calendar year) to fund full-time studies without tax penalty, provided you repay within the required timeframe (up to 10 years). We manage the annual repayments and filings to keep you compliant.
Paid internships and self-employment
Paid internship, private tutoring, side contracts during studies: your return becomes more complex — but also more rewarding when well managed. Optimization of eligible deductions (home office, mileage, equipment), and we make sure instalment payments are properly planned if your income warrants it.
Refundable credits
Quebec solidarity tax credit, GST/HST credit, Canada Workers Benefit: several credits are paid out even without taxes owing. It's money that goes directly into your account.
A partnership that evolves with you.
Today — Your study years
Optimization of student credits, tracking of carried-forward tuition, management of student loans and LLP withdrawals. We build the foundation of your tax file.
Your first internships and jobs
Transition to professional life: adjusting to new income, optimizing the carryforward of accumulated school credits, managing first instalment payments if needed.
Self-employment or contracts
If you start practicing on the side or on your own: bookkeeping, GST/QST, business expense deductions, annual tax planning.
Your practice — Incorporation
When it's time to structure your practice as a corporation, we're there: T2, tax planning, payroll. You keep the same accountant who has known your story from day one.
